A couple of weeks ago I asked in my Facebook group (Salon Industry Networking Group) for some suggestions of ideal facial treatments for my daughter Emily. While I don’t think her skin is particularly bad (having suffered terribly myself when in my teens) she has a real issue over it. She’s coming up 18 and I thought a nice effective, results driven salon facial plus some products for home use would be a great birthday gift for her – the gift of beautiful skin!
I got plenty of recommendations for types of facials she could have as well as some brands being mentioned.
So, armed with that knowledge, I put Google to work. I typed in ‘facials near me’. A few places came up, one or 2 using MLM (multi level marketing) type products which I wasn’t interested in and some that only did facials/skin care. Most of these were quite advanced and I thought might be a bit much for Emily. Also, we share our birthday and I wanted some pampering too! But more of a body scrub type pamper than a facial.
I then typed in some of the brands mentioned to see if there were any salons locally using them. I got excited that yes, certain brands were being used nearby so I copied the salon name and address into our friend Google and then, nothing. Salon after salon, other than being listed on the website of their chosen brand, HAD NO ONLINE PRESENCE! It’s really quite frustrating when you want to book in and spend a not inconsiderable amount of money and you can’t because you can’t find any information about what they offer.
I forget what I typed in next but I eventually found a salon locally that uses a decent award winning brand so Emily will get a good result with her facial AND I get to have a super duper body wrap type treatment. They had an online booking system to make things easy for a client to book in but because I needed to synchronise the 2 bookings for the same day & time, I phoned to make the appointments.
After months of not being able to do salon treatments, you’d think salon owners would be doing everything in their power to get new clients through the door but SO MANY failed at the very 1st hurdle. Is this you? When was the last time you looked at your business through the eyes of a potential new client?
I knew pretty much what I wanted and yet it took ALL AFTERNOON to find somewhere – I was beginning to lose the will by the end haha.
